Annual General Meeting

5/12/2023

Attention to Community Members in Hazeldell:

On April 23rd a community meeting was held to discuss the future of the Hazeldell Community Hall property.  There is information regarding the purpose behind the meeting on our website www.hazeldellcommunity.ca under the tab Community News.

During the community meeting, the focus was on identifying necessary property improvements and determining what they would entail in the future. A variety of ideas were presented, including a community gathering space, basketball court, lawn bowling, pickle ball, maintaining the current setup, and a designated area for the Farmer's Market. The gathering was attended by two City of Prince Albert representatives, two City Councillors, and around 30 community members.

What does this mean going forward?  The City of Prince Albert has an annual budget of $150,000 budgeted for playground/park improvements. For reference, the new playground and splash park at Midtown Community Hall is budgeted at $650,000.  Any funds over $150,000 must be raised through fundraising, sponsorships, or grants.

As the current board steps down, a new board with energy and fresh ideas is necessary to move things forward, according to our bylaws a minimum of 5 board members are required. Currently, all positions on the board are vacant and we are in need of a facilities coordinator. The Annual General Meeting was set for May 8th. With only a few attendees it was suggested that the AGM be rescheduled to May 23rd at 7:00 pm after letters were distributed to homes throughout the community.

Please join us at the upcoming AGM to have a say in the future of this property.  If we are unable to establish a new board going forward, everything will be turned over to the City of Prince Albert to determine the future of the property for our community.
Without a committed board of directors, it is impossible to develop anything new on the property because there will be an ongoing need for management and organization.  In short, without a new dedicated board in place, it may become a vacant lot.

The AGM on May 23rd at 7:00 pm will be our last meeting on this issue.
